New Somerville Mayor Assembles Transition Committee

Wilson's Transition Steering Committee will be led by a former Somerville mayor.

SOMERVILLE, MA — Mayor-elect Jake Wilson announced Monday that he is putting together a steering committee that will work to facilitate the transition from Mayor Katjana Ballantyne’s administration to Wilson’s in the coming months.

The committee will be chaired by former Mayor Joe Curtatone, while Ward One Councilor Matt McLaughlin will be vice chair. Curtatone served as Mayor for 18 years between 2004 and 2022 before he was succeeded by Ballantyne.

According to Wilson, the committee’s focus areas include improving city services, modernizing communication, being more available and accountable to constituents, strengthening efficiency, and building regional partnerships to solve challenges such as housing affordability, transportation, and public health.

“This transition is about planning for success. We’re going to treat city government like an urban mechanic shop, fixing what’s broken, refining how we work, and measuring progress, while communicating honestly, being available and accountable, and putting equity at the center of every decision,” Wilson said.
