Somerville Celebrating Completion Of Accessible Swing Project
Multiple new swings designed for kids of various ages and abilities were installed throughout the city's playgrounds.
SOMERVILLE, MA — The city has installed a total of 10 inclusive and accessible swings at multiple parks as part of an accessibility initiative.
The project was spearheaded by the Somerville Commission for Persons with Disabilities and executed by the Parks and Urban Forestry Division. The new swings are described including both a hard harness and an additional belt harness which can be used by any children between the ages of two and 12. They also meet modern safety standards and underwent third-party conformance testing, according to the city.
The final swing, which was just installed at Hoyt-Sullivan Playground on Central St. will be the center of a ribbon-cutting ceremony celebrating the completion of the entire project that reportedly doubled the amount of Somerville’s parks that have accessible and safe swings.
