Somerville Chocolate Business Ranked As One Of Nation's Most Ethical
The business has operated in the city for 20 years.
SOMERVILLE, MA — A local company has been ranked as one of the country’s most ethical, according to an analysis from MarketBeat.
Taza Chocolate Makers at 561 Windsor St. placed as the 56th out of the 118 ranked by the financial media company. More than 3,000 survey responses were the primary source used to decide the rankings. The top companies were those "that respondents believe most closely align with their personal ethics and values," MarketBeat wrote.
Taa was founded in 2005 by Alex Whitmore and Kathleen Fulton. Whitmore became interested in producing his own stone ground chocolate when he first tried it in Mexico. The company is noted for its direct trade certified practices that eliminate "predatory middlemen and abusive labor practices," according to its website.
