Somerville Farmers Market Offering Food Assistance To SNAP Recipients
The business is giving credits to those in need on a weekly basis.
SOMERVILLE, MA — A local farmers market is offering some relief to families in need of food.
The Somerville Winter Farmers Market at 191 Highland Ave. is giving customers who use EBT $15 of credit to use at the market each week between now and when the market closes down for the season next spring.
The initiative is in response to the stoppage of the federal food assistance program known as SNAP that began on Saturday, Nov. 1. More than 1 million Massachusetts residents benefit from the program. Customers will just have to show their card to the Market Manager’s booth to receive the credit.
