How Will the Boston Marathon Impact Your Monday?
We're looking for your travel tips for traveling around the area on Mon., April 15, 2013.

More than 25,000 runners will be running through the area during the 2013 Boston Marathon on Monday, April 15, plus some roads in Newton will be closed on Sunday, April 14, too!
While the marathon won't be going through Watertown, all those athletes making their way through the streets of Newton and Boston will close some main roads and impact town residents.

Newton Police will close down Washington Street (Rte. 16) from the Wellesley line to Commonwealth Avenue starting at 8:45 a.m. and Commonwealth Avenue (Rte. 30) will be closed from Washington Street to the Boston line starting at 9 a.m.
All roads that cross Commonwealth Avenue and Washington Street will effectively be dead ends, as traffic will not be able to cross the marathon route. See more details on Newton Patch.

All roads are scheduled to reopen by 5 p.m.
In Boston, all streets around Copley Square will be closed at 6 a.m. All streets inside of Massachusetts Avenue will be closed at 9 a.m. All streets outside of Massachusetts Avenue will be closed at 9:30 a.m. See more details in this report on Boston.com.
Some recommended routes for getting around include Route 9, Route 128 and the Mass Pike.
MBTA changes for Marathon Monday
Information courtesy of the MBTA website:
- The Red, Blue, Orange, Green and Silver lines will operate on a regular weekday schedule with extra service before and after the marathon.
- Copley Station will be closed all day. Use Hynes or Arlington Stations. The Berkley Street entrance/exit of Arlington Station will remain closed and he "B" section of Hynes Convention Center located on Boylston Street will be available for exit only.
- Customers are urged to load value on to their CharlieCards in advance in order to avoid long lines on Marathon Monday.
- Commuter Rail service will operate on its regular weekday schedule.
- Due to the dramatically increased ridership with extreme crowds, customers should expect delays throughout the day and are encouraged to budget additional time for his/her commute.
- Several bus routes will be diverted during Marathon Monday and customers are strongly encouraged to check T-Alerts and MBTA.com throughout the day for up-to-the-minute information. For a full list of the affected bus routes, check the MBTA marathon information website.
Road closures for Sunday, April 14 (Heartbreak Hill Road Race)
The following traffic changes and road closures will be put in place for Newton's Annual Heartbreak Hill Road Race on Sun., April 14:
- Traffic patterns will change on Commonwealth Avenue, between Newton City Hall and Centre Street
- Traffic on Walnut Street from Commonwealth Avenue to Homer Street will be diverted
- Traffic on Homer Street between Walnut Street and Commonwealth Avenue will be eastbound only
- The traffic changes will take place from approximately 9 a.m. - noon.
