LETTER: Watertown Cub Scouts Move up to Boy Scouts in Crossing Over Ceremony
Scout leader John VanRyn writes that scouting in Watertown is strong.
On Tuesday night, scouting in Watertown celebrated the transition. Cubs who started their time in scouts as many as five years ago, who have also earned Cub Scouting's highest award, the Arrow of Light, officially crossed over to being Boy Scouts in Troop 30 of Watertown.
The Transition from Cub scouting to Boy scouting is a tradition dating back almost 80 years, and marks the time when Cubs leave their dens and start a more independent and boy led path of boy scouting. From here the boys will learn leadership and teamwork skills all while camping and enjoying nature.
Scouting in Watertown is strong and healthy. Pack 30 serves 46 members in elementary school, in a year round program that includes two camping trips a year, along with two museum overnights, like the museum of science and the battleship Massachusetts. Troop 30 is made up of eighteen members, it camps or has some form of outdoor activity every month. It members vary in age from 11 through 18 years old. The troop is looking forward to summer camp this year at camp T.L. Storrer in New Hampshire. To become active in scouting email info@pack30.com for more information.
