Watertown Observes Earth Hour on Saturday Night
The lights will go out in town in observance of the effort to stop climate change.

The lights will go out in town buildings and other places around town tonight during Earth Hour.
Last year, 7001 cities and towns in 152 countries participated in the event that draws attention to the effort to stopping global climate change.

Earth Hour will be observed in Watertown for the third time on March 23 from 8:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., said Kate Ryan, the organizer of the event. During that time all the lights in municipal buildings, except for those needed for public safety.
The Town Council passed a resolution on March 12 committing to the town's participation in the event, and encouraging residents to also turn off the lights during that time.

Town Councilor Susan Falkoff thanked Ryan for bringing Earth Hour to the council's attention.
"It is a perfect opportunity for a candle lit dinner," Falkoff said.
