Watertown Superintendent: Schools Ready to Greet Students After a Week of Mayhem

Guidance councilors will be available to support students at all of Watertown's schools on Monday.

Teachers, staff and - perhaps most importantly - guidance councilors will greet students at Watertown schools when children return to class on Monday.

Spring break 2013 has been anything but a relaxing vacation for Watertown students. Many may need more than a hug after a week that started Monday's Boston Marathon Bombings and then came to their front yard with shootouts and explosions in Watertown's East End on Thursday night, followed by a day of being locked down in their homes and finally a second shoot out and the capture of the second Bombing suspect on Friday.

Here is the text of the announcement:

Dear Watertown Families,

As we all reflect on the tragedy at the Boston Marathon and the subsequent manhunt in Watertown, I want to assure parents that the Watertown Public School administrators, teachers and staff stand ready to greet students and welcome them back to school on Monday. Our guidance staff will be on hand at all schools for those students who need support. If parents would like to speak to someone, please come to Room 101 of the Phillips Building, on 30 Common Street where professional counselors will be available all day on Monday.

Sincerely,
Jean M. Fitzgerald
Superintendent
