Alex James Grosso Sr. Decorated World War II Vet, Dies At 94

Services for Bayville resident will be held on Wednesday and Thursday

Alex James Grosso, Sr. of Bayville passed away on Dec. 17, 2017 at home with his family. He was 94.

Born in Manhattan, he lived in Fairlawn, then retired to Bayville after 35 years of employment with the U.S. Post Office. Alex was a veteran of World War II and a recipient of the Purple Heart for his war wounds. He is also a recipient of the WWII Victory Medal, the Distinguished Unit Badge, and the European African Middle Eastern Medal.

He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years Marie; two children, Alex, Jr. and his wife Lisa and Alison Jablonski and her husband Donald; four grandchildren, AJ, Peter, Donald, and Missy; a great-grandson Jake; brother-in-law Angelo DeSalvo and his wife Kathleen; and a sister-in-law Caroline Grosso.

Visiting hours will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 20, at the Mastapeter Funeral Home, 270 Atlantic City Blvd., Bayville. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home, before an 11 a.m. funeral Mass at St. Barnabas R.C. Church, Bayville. Burial will follow at 1 p.m. in the New Jersey Veterans Cemetery, Wrightstown. In lieu of flowers, donations in Alex’s memory to Seasons Hospice and Palliative Care, (seasons.org), would be appreciated.
