Berkeley Man Charged With Slashing Long Branch Cop

Eric Henderson, 32 charged with slashing of off-duty police officer, police chief says.

LONG BRANCH, NJ - After a five-day investigation, city police have arrested a Berkeley man suspected of slashing an off-duty police officer, according to an app.comreport.

Eric Henderson, 32, was arrested by police Wednesday. He is charged with first-degree armed robbery, aggravated assault, possession of a weapon for unlawful purposes and violation of a restraining order, Police Chief Jason Roebuck said.

City police Officer Patrick Joyce Jr. was slashed in the arm at 3:30 a.m. as he was crossing the street in the area of Norwood Avenue and High Street, Roebuck said.

Joyce was taken to Monmouth Medical Center, where he was treated and released. The weapon used in the assault was recovered, the chief said.

Henderson was taken to the Monmouth County Jail in Freehold and is waiting for a bail hearing.
