Berkeley Police Investigating Two Cases Of Fraud Involving Bogus Comcast Accounts

Residents received collection notices for accounts they never opened, police chief says.

BERKELEY TOWNSHIP, NJ - Berkeley police are investigating two separate cases of fraud where residents received hefty collection notices for Comcast accounts they never opened, Police Chief Karin T. DiMichele said.

Oct. 1 - 4:12 p.m., Patrolman Edward Hendrickson responded to a Woodhaven Boulevard home at 4:12 p.m. on a fraud report. The victim told police that an unauthorized Comcast account had been opened in her name. She was unaware the account opened until she received a collection notice for $861.25, the chief said.

Oct. 3 - Patrolman Joseph Chrzanowski responded to a Sheffield Drive residence on a fraud report. This victim also told police that an unauthorized Comcast account had been opened in her name. She also was unaware the account had been opened until she received a collection notice for $586.26.

Both accounts have been closed. There are no suspects at this time, the chief said.
