Canine Sister Refuses To Leave Injured Dog's Side

Both dogs are recovering at the Popcorn Park Zoo in Lacey Township

LACEY TOWNSHIP, NJ - When Joanie the pit bull was hit by a car in North Jersey, her buddy Jetta refused to leave her side.

When police arrived, they found Joanie sprawled in the street and Jetta by her side, according to a post on the Associated Humane Societies Popcorn Park Facebook page.

Joanie was operated on up north, after she was diagnosed with a broken pelvis and multiple abrasions. The two female pitties were eventually transferred to the Popcorn Park shelter in Lacey Township.

"For anyone that believes that animals do not form a strong bond with each other, we would invite you to come in and meet our friends, Joanie and Jetta," the post states. "These girls know the true meaning of friendship, and stand by each other even in their darkest of days."

The two pups are now living together in the "Vinnie Van Gogh Recovery Suite" and being kept comfortable and cared for. Joanie needs confined rest while her pelvis heals and is propped up with fluffy beds and blankets.

"In the meantime, Jetta dances around her, making sure she is ok, licking her wounds, sniffing her for any signs of something being amiss, and taking good care of her best friend," according to the post. "The two are absolutely inseparable and cannot even go out for their morning walks without one another, otherwise they will cry and cry until they're together."

Both dogs have sweet, loving personalities.

The dogs' medical expenses are being paid for with the shelter's Res-Q-Fund. If you want to contribute toward their care, please text ResQ to 501501 to make a $10 donation or click here to donate to the Res-Q Fund:https://www.ahscares.org/shop/item.asp?itemid=28&catid=5

The best friends will need a new home once Joanie has recovered from her injuries.
