Creepfest At Bayville Business Off Route 9 Gets Lots Of Looks At Halloween

BAYVILLE, NJ - If you really want to experience the full effect of Advanced Furnace and Air Duct's Halloween extravaganza, you have to get out of your car.

Don't just slow down and take a gander while you're heading up Route 9. You might cause an accident. You would also miss out on terrific displays.

Owner Rich Spano began the holiday traditions years ago, which also include Thanksgiving and Christmas displays. He keeps them going because of the letters he receives from kids who love them, his son Bob says.

Smoke swirled around the skeleton dogs, giant spiders, creepy mannequins, snarling automated werewolves and the poor masked criminal jolting in an electric chair in the dusk on a recent evening. Some people had already pulled off Route 9 and parked, to get a better look.

Ocean Gate resident Lisa Madden and her little girl MacKenzie were out on Wednesday night getting an early look at the attraction.

"It's pretty cool," Madden said. "You've got to get out and look.'

If you didn't, you'd miss the decapitated heads rolling off a demented assembly line. Or the wrapped human organs for sale at the store.

Spano wants residents to know that the show is back and better, after last year's fire that destroyed much of the equipment.

"We lost about $15,000 worth of stuff," he said. "We had a lot of people from the community help."

This year's display, impressive as it already is, is not finished yet. It should be up and running by Friday, Bill Spano said.

Advanced Furnace and Air Duct is located at 2 Harbor Inn Road in Bayville. The parking lot is empty when the business closes around 5 p.m. Be careful not to trip over skeleton remnants poking out of graves.
