BERKELEY, NJ — The annual Ocean County Fair has been canceled for the second year in a row due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. The event was set to take place July 14-18 at the Robert J. Miller Airpark.

The Ocean County Fair made the announcement Tuesday on its website and Facebook page.

The Rutgers Cooperative Extension — a youth-development program and major partner of the fair — has suspended all in-person events since last year because of limitations on large gatherings.

Due to capacity restrictions, the organizers said it would be impossible for them to safely host the 2021 County Fair.

The Ocean County Fair was also canceled last year amid the coronavirus pandemic. The fair organizers said they are working on planning for next year’s fair scheduled for July 13-17, 2022.

The Ocean County Fair's history goes back to 1947, when the County Board of Agriculture held the first "4-H Achievement and Agricultural Ocean County Field Day."

Beginning in 1982 the Ocean County Fair was expanded to a 4-day event, and moved to its current location at Robert Miller Airpark in Berkeley Township.

The new location provided two fenced-in horse show rings, more parking space, space for amusements and rides, and a more centrally-located site in the county.
