Recent Project Medicine Drop Breaks Old Record: Prosecutor
County initiative harvested 4,250 pounds of unwanted or unused prescription drugs in December

TOMS RIVER, NJ - Another record broken.
The Ocean County Prosecutor's Office recently burned more than two tons of unused or unwanted prescription drug medications, Prosecutor Joseph D. Coronato said.
The recent bill burn on Dec. 14 safely disposed of 4,520 pounds of unused medications, breaking the previous record of 4,460 pounds. Since the program began back in October 2014, more than 31,360 pounds of medications have been destroyed, Della Fave said.

"Project Medicine Drop is the countywide initiative to make disposal of unused medications an easy convenient priority for Ocean County residents," Coronato said. "With just under half of the municipalities in Ocean County having easily accessible medication drop boxes at police department entrances, there is no excuse not to clean out and drop off these potentially dangerous meds."
