BAYVILLE, NJ — Darren Ryan said his wife Jessica always dreamed of opening up a food truck.

Together, the Bayville couple has taken that dream to the next level by opening their new restaurant, Taste Bowls.

“She got her wish because now we have a storefront. I never thought it was in the cards,” Darren told Patch.

The restaurant offers an array of options from fresh fruit to more dessert-like bowl bases with vanilla pudding or chocolate mousse.

“We started researching and traveling all over the place, and trying everything everywhere just to see what we can do different than everybody else,” he said.

The arrival of a fruit bowl and smoothie spot in Bayville was met with excitement from the town, Darren said.

Residents used to drive down to Lacey or into Toms River if they were craving a quick bowl of fresh fruit, but now Taste Bowls is located right in Bayville.

“Even the mayor and all the town council are so supportive, like ‘Yes! Something new in Bayville,’” he said.

The restaurant only offers take out for now, but tables will be set up outside when the weather warms up.

Their initial hours will be 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Sunday.
