LI Boat Crash Kills 1, Injures 2 - Including Farmingdale Man

David Nostrand, 58, of Farmingdale was operating a 17-foot Whaler when police said he crashed into another boater Sunday.

FARMINGDALE, NY—A two-boat crash in the waters off Long Island claimed one man's life and left two others injured - including a Farmingdale man - over the weekend.

According to the Suffolk County Police Department, David Nostrand, 58, was at the helm of a 17-foot Boston Whaler in West Fox Creek Channel, just south of the village of Babylon, when he crashed into a 22-foot Activator about 2:40 p.m. on Sunday.

News 12 reported that 19-year-old Ian Morgan of Lindenhurst was the operator of the second boat.

Zachary McCarthy, 25, a passenger in the Activator, died in the crash, the NY Daily News reported.

Nostrand and Morgan were transported to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip for treatment of minor injuries.

The crash remains under investigation.
